Good times for rap music producers

If you happen to be a music producer (or want to be), there is no better time to become a rap music producer. Thanks to the growth in rap over the past years, rap music producers are getting paid big.

Let's look at some examples of why rap music is paying so well. Back in the 1990s, Dr.Dre was the unofficial king of rap beats and rap production. Now, his name is barely mentioned. What happened?

Well, being the king meant Dre started charging an arm and a leg. Now, people like Timbaland charge up to $500 000 for a beat. Why would anyone pay that much? Having a beat produced by Timbaland automatically means your single is going to take off. You know that song Apologize by One Republic? Hard not to. That song was out long before Timbaland threw his beat on it. Even though the original still sounds good, it didn't sell.

This shouldn't surprise you, since life is all about marketing. I digress though. My point is, producing rap music is becoming huge. Rap is one of the fastest growing music genres and is becoming increasingly profitable. Someone has to make that money, and rap music producers get their taste.

Being a rapper doesn't have the same potential as a rap producer. Producers can make beats for anyone and any style. Club beats are easier to make, since most of them sample drum beats, plus they pay rap producers big cash, since club songs are the ones that make money.

If you're a rap artist, learning to produce rap music is still very useful. Making your own beats gives you a unique sound that no one else can use.

Either way, becoming a rap music producer isn't all fun and games, that's why this blog is here to help you become a rap producer.
